Social media (the Web 2.0 sites Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc…) influence, inform, create value, destroy value, help people, hurt people, use our time, save our time, and I could go on and on. Social media has woven itself into our lives and is a wave of force,
pushing and pulling on us, regardless of our choice to ignore or embrace it.
I’m learning to embrace the newer forms of social media, reluctantly. Frankly, I’d rather go fishing than read someone’s Facebook post about what they ate for dinner, but that’s not the point. I see social media as a tool to accomplish more in less time, not as a way in which to spend my free weekend hours.
My expectations for this course include these:
- sharing my viewpoints on how to use social media to leverage higher performance in leadership and management roles
- learning from my classmates how to best use social media and how to understand the trends, the desires, the thoughts of social media users
- learning from Prof Kane a framework with which to understand what has happened, what is happening, and maybe even what will likely happen in social media
