How will Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality change the Retail Environment

Augmented Reality (AR), according to the dictionary is “a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.”, while virtual reality (VR) is “a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by […]

Millennials and CSR

Fortune 500 firms currently spend more than $15 billion per year on corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities – a number  that researchers say is rapidly rising. Whereas companies generally used to have very small CSR divisions, these teams are growing and taking on more responsibility within their corporations. While the core tenet of increasing value for […]

The Business of Social Media: Initials Thoughts

Social media is all around us. When we look around (even in class) you can see numerous people using any of the social media platforms, be it twitter, Instagram, snapchat, Facebook, among others. With so many users, practically everyone with a phone in their pockets, companies have understood the importance of targeting and engaging in […]

Hit the ground running

When I started my MBA last fall, I thought I had a solid understanding of social media, if not digital business. I’d been working in the nonprofit sector for about six years. In my last job, I occasionally managed our social accounts when someone was on maternity leave or we had a vacant position. I learned […]

More questions than answers

In reflecting on this semester’s Social Media and Digital Business course, I feel like I am walking away with more questions than answers. I mean that in a very positive sense. What I have taken from this class is not all of the answers about how social media and digital businesses will affect our identities and societies in the future, but instead it has instilled a curiosity and inquisitiveness in me to continue to think about these issues in the future.

#Blessed to Be Digital

As I am sitting down to write this post in a Starbucks, I can’t help but notice the long line of people waiting to order at the register. I find it quite weird – I don’t remember the last time I had to stand in a line at Starbucks, I just order ahead through the mobile […]

How Blockchain could disrupt democracy and governance

Mixing Blockchain and Government sounds like a George Orwell novel, but the general consensus seems to be that Blockchain will change democracy and government for the better.

You have one friend request – Add your boss as a friend?

Let’s face it – regardless of whether you are the summer intern, the manager, or the CEO of your organization, everyone stares out into the same social media minefield and wonders about the etiquette and appropriateness of connecting with work colleagues online.

Brands & Influencers: How they help each other make $$$

Last week, Amazon launched a Social Media Influencer program. The program will allow the influencers to earn fees for purchases that were made through their social media accounts and posts. Amazon will also assign a custom URL for the customers who would want to shop a certain influencer’s feed. Unlike the existing Amazon Affiliates program […]

Drew’s next book: Be a reviewer! Yes, you! Genre: Digital-age sci-fi(?)

During the course of my research about publishing in the digital age, a couple of interesting things happened. As you could probably tell from the presentation, one of them was that my passion as an individual writer was suddenly reignited. More specifically, there is a story concept that I’ve had in mind since the summer […]

Tumblr ≠ Teenage Angst?!

I admit it. I was one of those high school teenagers that jumped on the Tumblr trend, constantly browsing through pretty outfits, inspiring quotes and TV show GIFs during class and study breaks. But after so many years, I really thought the presence of Tumblr was long gone…in fact, it was only on spring break […]

Winning the Internet in Gucci

Last week, the luxury fashion brand Gucci started generating headlines for unveiling its new collection of watches through creating a series of branded memes in collaboration with artists and popular Instagram meme accounts (referred to as the “collaborative art project” by the brand itself) and posting them on their social media channels. For a luxury brand with […]

Can your 5-Star driver become your 5-Star friend?

Did you ever think to invite your Uber driver to your post-game? It happens more than you think. Whether continuing a conversation with your Uber driver inside your own home (as was the recent case with some mod residents), toasting a jägerbomb to your Drizly deliverer, or forging a new friendship with the person whose dog […]

Best of Boston

Many small businesses make the same mistake when it comes to social media – they tend to bombard followers with an endless stream of advertising messages, which followers fail to engage with. Here are a few companies near BC that are using Facebook, Instagram, and Yelp effectively.
